Kavita Gawrinauth

Historian of Migration, Religion,
and the Indo-Guyanese Diaspora

I am a Ph.D. student in History at New York University. My research explores how Indo-Guyanese communities rebuild religious and cultural worlds across displacement—from Indian indenture in British Guiana to postcolonial Guyana and immigrant life in New York City.

My work brings together Caribbean, South Asian, Asian American, and U.S. history through the study of migration, religion, oral history, and community archives.
